"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." In the Keys, January 2009

"If you are a civil libertarian,if you are in the ACLU or a law professor, or a liberal in good standing who swore that George Bush from Texas, with strut and twang and mangled vocabulary, destroyed your liberties with FISA, with the Patriot Act, and with Iraq, then please extend that outrage to Barack Obama, for whom all such shredding of the Constitution suddenly has become merely complex and problematic rather than fascistic. Please list, cite, name just one instance from 2002-8 in which you lost your freedom, or you were censored on the library internet, or you were followed around by the FBI, or your letter to the editor earned a wiretap, or even one instance of the loss of any freedom under Bush-- and if so, just one example of how the election of Obama has once again restored your lost liberty. Nothing in the abstract, please-- something concrete, an example both real and personal. -Works and Days - An Uneasy Feeling

Big government is itself apolitical. It cares not whose party is in power. It simply continues to grow. Its nourishment is the people’s money. Its excrement is more and more regulations and laws. Like the Terminator, "that’s what it does, that’s all it does." Roosevelt, Bush, Obama: we're a day into Terminator 3 now, and you know how that movie ends. -Sense of Events: You are the problem

"We once produced a Patrick Henry.
Now all we can offer up is a Harry Reid. We once produced a Washington. Now all we can offer up is a Barney Frank. We once produced a Lincoln. Now all we can offer up is a fey beast who revels in mendacity.... You see here the first vague outlines of our next civil war. Be not afraid." -When The Wicked Seize A Nation | The Return Of Scipio

Regarding those "every year more inane" blog 'awards' iowahawk: You May Already Be a WinnerUnfortunately, there is a dark side to the Awards Week glitter of Pixeltown. For every winner of Best Canadian Pet Grooming Site, or Best Mid-Low-Major Blog With Moon in Scorpio, there will be millions of losers. After the gift baskets are distributed and the red carpet rolled up, you will find these broken souls in a private VIP booth at the Viper Club, face-down in mountain of cocaine, angrily muttering about the injustice of it all.

Velociworld: Character FlawsThese filthy lying creatures of the darkness don't desire peace: they desire the defeat of bourgeoise western civilization, for a myriad of reasons, mostly cowardice and the economic advantage of simply being able to be a childish whiner in a society that respects and rewards the hard work and, yes, puritan ethic they are too somnambulent and lazy to aspire to. The current virulent anti-Semitism gushing through the bloodstream of the liberal establishment like a raging Marburg virus is nothing more or less than it has always been: the symptom of the craven cowardice and indolence of the pampered elite. Far easier to collaborate with the ululating Islamist decapitators than to stand tall and defend the Jews against those who brazenly boast of annihilating them. It truly takes a most rancid soul to sit in one's comfort zone and proclaim the Israelis are Nazis and SS troopers and genocidal murderers. To have descended to that level of gibberish is to have proclaimed oneself to all sane peoples that you are an insipid, unserious, dilettantish piece of human garbage, incapable of the simplest differentiation between nobility and gross savagery. I for one refuse to believe these Leftists actually believe this filth they purvey: no one in their right mind could do so. It simply must be the manifestation of the aforementioned cowardice, and the adolescent giggling of the shock-value childish.

Purely as a public service I note Colberg's highly moral and decent expose of A portable toilet company's disgusting 2009 calendar. Here in Western Massachusetts, it's only thirteen and a half hours into 2009, and there already is a strong contender for the most revolting photograph to come out of this year.

"Dey wuz robbed!" In which "Co-regents" Tammy Bruce and Neoneocon discover that, in a quest for the tiara, passion and cleavage always trumps nice and measured. Because... well... men are pigs. GayPatriot voters anoint Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs as the Grande Conservative Blogress Diva of 2009. Tiara frisbeed to Geller. Shoes tossed at Bruce and Neo. Shoes? Options in Israel: Destroy Hamas or Take to the Sewer Pipes. The two young men felt uncomfortable especially when they informed me that Home Front Command was planning on bringing in large sewer pipes. Yes, you read that correctly, sewer pipes, made of thick concrete, for our protection. The pipes would be distributed to each cul-de-sac. When the sirens wail, we would run outside, crawl into our very own sewer pipe and wait five minutes or at least until we hear the explosion. Then we crawl out and return to our cardboard homes.

Blanning, 72, walked into two Aspen banks at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and left packages wrapped in holiday paper along with notes saying the boxes contained bombs. The notes threatened "mass death" and demanded $60,000 cash, along with criticisms of President George Bush, Assistant Aspen Police Chief Bill Linn said at a news conference.
